New drive-in cinema in Dublin features the largest LED screen in Ireland

Since Ireland’s cinemas remain closed until July 20, an alternative to watching movies on the big screen – and yet maintaining social distance – is the new drive-in opened in Dublin.

The drive-ins, which were very popular in the 50s and 60s, work as follows: you park your vehicle in front of a big screen, and the sound of the film is transmitted over the radio, so you can have a cinema experience in the comfort of your car.

Ireland’s first drive-in is at RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin 4, and has the largest LED screen in the country. The sessions take place daily, usually at 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm. The film catalog includes classics, animations and even Oscar winners, such as La La Land, Lady Bird, Shrek and Back to the Future.

Tickets cost € 29.99 per vehicle (up to four people) and can be purchased through this website. There is no need to print them, just show them on your cell phone.

No cinema is complete without popcorn, so the place offers a menu of snacks and drinks that are delivered directly to your car window.

Drive-in with pizza

The film Lady Bird will be shown in a single session on Tuesday evening, June 25, at a drive-in set up at Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin. At the event, organized by the Lovin Dublin website in partnership with the pizzeria Chicago Town, vouchers will be distributed for a new frozen vegan pizza launched by the brand. Tickets cost € 30 and can be purchased through this website.
