National Heritage Week in Ireland is set to return 16 – 24 August 2025, offering free admission to over 70 heritage sites across Ireland to celebrate the theme “Exploring Our Foundations.” On Saturday 16 August, visitors can explore historic locations from medieval castles to walled gardens at no cost. Free entry to historical sites, gardens and more
On the opening weekend, OPW‑managed sites nationwide will welcome the public free of charge, unlocking access to spaces that are usually ticketed. More than 70 venues, including castles, abbeys, gardens, and historic buildings, are participating in this initiative. You can find out the full list of participating sites here.

Adare Castle (Desmond Castle), Co. Limerick
- Free Admission Day: 16 August 2025.
- What’s On: Guided tours through the 13th-century Norman castle, exploring its medieval heritage and dramatic past.

Charles Fort, Kinsale, Co. Cork

Custom House Visitor Centre, Dublin

- Activities: Free evening “Discover Bats at Donegal Castle” tour (22 August, 8–10pm) and historic performances throughout Heritage Week.

Glendalough Visitor Centre & Monastic Site, Co. Wicklow
