How long does it take to get Irish citizenship?

There are three possible ways for you to obtain Irish citizenship. The first possibility is, of course, being born in Ireland. Anyone born in the country has this right, unless the parents are foreigners and are in the country “passing through”.

Another way is to prove Irish descent. Anyone with Irish parents or grandparents can claim the right at the Irish Embassy. If you have an Irish great-grandparent, you can apply if your parents applied for citizenship before you were born.

Finally, the most common path among Brazilians seeking Irish citizenship is through naturalization, which can be obtained for those who live (or have lived) in Ireland for at least five years in the last nine, including a continuous year before order.

Likewise, anyone who has lived in Ireland for at least one continuous year and has been married to an Irish person for three years or more can also obtain Irish citizenship.

It is worth mentioning that the student visa is not valid, even if you have lived in Ireland for four years, for example.

Special Irish citizenship

This is probably not your case, but it is worth mentioning that there is a special condition to apply for Irish citizenship, which is the case of refugees and stateless persons, who are people without nationality recognized in any country. Typically, stateless persons belong to small minority groups that are discriminated against in some nations.

Refugees and stateless persons do not pay fees to acquire Irish citizenship and enter into special, differentiated conditions, aiming to speed up the naturalization process.

How much does it cost to get Irish citizenship?

In order to file the documentation to obtain Irish citizenship, you have to pay a fee of €175. Also, if approved, your certificate must be collected at a fee of €950 for adults and €200 for minors. 18 years and widowers and widowers of a deceased Irish partner.
