A 23-year-old Brazilian delivery driver, Alexandre Athos Pinheiro Teixeira, is still recovering from the shock and physical trauma of a terrifying attack in Cork on Halloween night. The incident, which involved a high-speed chase and a deliberate ramming, has left him with severe leg injuries.
The ordeal began when Teixeira, who is also an English language student in Ireland, was making a delivery in the Blackrock area. He noticed a grey car reversing towards him and, believing it was a mistake, swerved to avoid a collision. However, the car pursued him, and a masked man emerged, attempting to pull him off his motorbike.
Fearing for his safety, Teixeira sped away, but the attackers relentlessly chased him. In a desperate attempt to escape, he entered a residential area, but the car caught up to him and rammed his motorbike. The impact caused severe fractures to his left leg.
“If I had landed on my hip, I could have been in a wheelchair. If I had landed on my head near the car, I could have been dead. They would have killed me,” Teixeira recounted.
Gardaí are investigating the incident and have recovered a stolen Skoda Kodiaq, believed to be the vehicle used in the attack. They are appealing to anyone with information or footage to come forward.
This shocking incident highlights the dangers faced by delivery drivers and underscores the need for increased safety measures to protect these essential workers.
